It shouldn't necessarily come as a surprise given their vast financial advantage over every other club in France, yet Paris Saint-Germain have again been officially crowned champions.

PSG won the Ligue 1 title with a draw in Strasbourg

The Parisian club struggled to a 1-1 draw away to Strasbourg on Saturday evening, yet the result mathematically confirmed that the Ligue 1 trophy would once again be heading back to the French capital.

In a season of despair for the club, with significant rumours about their ownership structure as the state of Qatar looks to fund the purchase of Manchester United, PSG have at least some success to cling to.

Disappointment in Europe once again will likely usher in a new era at the Parc des Princes, with Neymar already being linked with a move away.

Messi's contract situation is showing no sign of positivity with regards to staying with the Qatar-owned club, and Christophe Galtier is expected to be replaced after just one year in charge.

Strasbourg subdued the PSG party

Messi, though, was on hand to ultimately score the decisive goal for PSG, with his strike opening the scoring in the 59th minute of play.

Danilo Pereira played a perfect Crossfield pass to Kylian Mbappe on the left flank, and the prodigious Frenchman was able to create a chance for the Argentine.

He dribbled beyond Lucas Perrin and then laid off a pass to an onrushing Messi who was able to convert a first-time shot into the roof of the net.

A lack of drive to score the second goal was a rather poetic way to end a season in which PSG have shown a complete lack of drive in all competitions.

Kevin Gameiro made the visitors pay for this attitude with an equaliser 10 minutes from the end.

The former Atletico Madrid goalscorer was introduced as a substitute and he was able to tap in a rebound from close range, providing a delightful scooped finish to complete a memorable comeback.
